YouTube: Free Online Video Courses

May 19, 2010 3:00 PM
Find out where you can watch free online video courses and learn something new.

When people think of YouTube, for most of them the first image that pops into their minds is either a dancing baby, a goat that sounds like a man, or a young teen belting out their soul in their bedroom.

YouTube is practically the go-to-source in online mindless entertainment, but did you ever think it would be a valuable and credible spot for education?

Well, it is, or at least it’s getting there.

Hundreds of respected universities and colleges such as Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley are posting video lectures from business, engineering, biology, and psychology courses.

Here are some examples of free online video courses from educational institutions:

University of California, Berkeley: Integrative Biology 131, Lecture 01 - Organization of Body

Cornell University: Mathematics of Juggling

So if you are trying to informally increase your knowledge, browse YouTube EDU for free online video courses in areas of interest to you. You can follow full courses from beginning to end on your own time.

What are your thoughts on colleges and universities opening up and making course content available for free online?
