Tip #1: When to study? Whenever you can
Finding a time to study is a struggle for any student, no matter the age, grade, area of study, or number of other obligations. There are always other, “more important” things that need to be done, and studying can always be put off for a couple more minutes.
So when to study? If you’re juggling commitments like school, work, and family… study whenever you can!
For example:
- Study while driving: Now, I’m not talking about flipping through your flashcards while driving to work or reading your textbook while chauffeuring your family around. Keep your eyes on the road! Instead, put your online class lectures onto your iPod or burn them onto a CD and listen to them while in the car. You’ll be surprised how much you pick up when hearing something a second or even third time.
- Study anytime by keeping your flashcards and notes with you at all times: You never know when you’ll have some downtime, especially with a schedule as busy as yours. Keep your notes with you everywhere you go so if you do find yourself waiting for your lunch at the store or stuck at your child’s practice, you can make better use of that free time by studying rather than twiddling your thumbs.
- Study and don’t watch TV: Wait, let me finish… at its scheduled time. Instead, TiVo it or watch it online later. When you get to control the replay, you can fast forward through commercials, saving you sometimes as much as 20 minutes. 20 minutes can be a whole chapter’s worth of reading!
