How long does it take to earn a bachelor's degree? Research: 6+ years
The 4-year college experience is continuously morphing. For example, online tools and technology made it possible to have the college experience without ever stepping foot on campus.
And now, as less traditional students such as working adults venture back to school and more part-time students are enrolling, the “4-year” degree may have to be renamed to the “4-years-plus” degree.
The majority of students need at least 6 years of study before they earn their bachelor’s degree, according to federal data stated in a recent Education Week article. Only about two-thirds of those who start college wind up earning a degree within six years.
One of the main reasons students either do not complete their degree or take longer to get their bachelor’s degree concerns finances and paying the high tuition costs. There never seems to be enough federal financial assistance, and many students have to work while pursuing an education.
